Guilty pleasures. Quick bites. Vignettes and themes. Flash Fiction is all of these. Often defined as anything under approximately a thousand words in length, I prefer to think of it as an introduction to a theme. With flash prose, I don’t expect to show you a complete world, a story arc with three parts, or fully-fleshed characters. Instead, I want to instill in you a feeling, an emotion, or an idea. In that sense, it’s not unlike poetry.
Sometimes I’ll use flash fiction to express something completely standalone, and sometimes I’ll use it as a way of dipping my toe into a concept, one I might later choose to expand upon at greater length. Either way, I hope you’ll enjoy these short offerings!
