Works in Progress

Stories rarely spring into existence fully formed. Some begin as a spark of inspiration, some as a question that refuses to leave me alone, and some grow far beyond anything I originally intended.

This page is where you’ll find my current writing projects in various stages of development. Some may be available to read as they are written, inviting you to follow along and offer feedback. Others may be further along in the process, quietly undergoing revision and refinement before they’re ready for release.

If you’re the sort of reader who enjoys seeing how stories evolve, you’ve come to the right place.

I always welcome thoughtful comments, observations, questions, and suggestions. Writing may be a solitary activity, but storytelling is ultimately a conversation.

What began as a simple story idea has grown into a full-length science fiction novel of more than 100,000 words and counting.

Set aboard an interstellar expedition investigating the first evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence, the story follows a crew confronting mysteries far older and stranger than they ever imagined. Along the way, questions of exploration, discovery, mortality, and humanity’s place in the cosmos take center stage.

Unlike most novels, this one has been published here scene by scene as it was written, allowing readers to follow the creative process in real time. What you’ll find is very much a work in progress: an evolving first draft complete with occasional rough edges, revisions, and course corrections as the story continues to unfold.

Currently published:
• 11 chapters
• 64 scenes

If you’re curious, start at the beginning — or jump in with the latest scene and see where the journey takes you.

Bad Decisions and Burning Thrusters

A small spacecraft flies low over the rocky floor of an asteroid crater toward a large research facility built into the crater wall, with a distant planet and stars in the sky.

Not every project develops in public.

Bad Decisions and Burning Thrusters is a science fiction adventure novella currently undergoing revision and editing. Unlike The Silence of Ancient Light, this story was drafted privately before being shared.

What began as a lighthearted tale about a courier pilot, a questionable cargo run, and a series of increasingly poor decisions somehow evolved into a fast-paced adventure involving dangerous secrets, corporate interests, unexpected alliances, and more than a few moments where common sense takes an unscheduled vacation.

The first draft is complete, and I am currently hard at work refining, revising, and preparing it for publication.

More details — and perhaps a few carefully selected previews — will appear here as the project continues to move toward completion.

    1. Hi Linda,

      Merry Christmas!

You can find each scene arranged in order, grouped in chapters, from the top menu, under “Works in Progress” then “The Silence of Ancient Light.” And at the end of each one is a link to the next, so you can just keep going straight through. I look forward to hearing what you think!

I was in Peru for a couple weeks in late September and early October, but I’m not there now. I’m still sorting out all the photos from that trip! Then I was in Barcelona for a week shortly after that. And then Hawaii for Thanksgiving, but that wasn’t quite so exotic. Peru was definitely magical, though I’m not sure that I found any aliens there. Other than myself, I suppose; technically, I was the alien.
